Description
Gavelli, the name presumably derives from a surname.
This evocative, late mediaeval castle stands on a very steep slope on the road to Monteleone di Spoleto. The town layout has a series of parallel roads running towards the church of San Michele Arcangelo.
The buildings consist of cells on two or three floors with the dwellings on the upper floors and the cowsheds and storerooms below with separate access on different levels, as is the custom in settlements on a slope. The ruins of the guardhouse can be found at the top of the hill.
