Description
The settlement of Castelvecchio is built on a hill and has no traces of fortification.
Both the place name and its position (overlooking the Campiano Valley and the Valnerina), as well as the morphology of the nucleus, all testify to its function as a castle, most certainly founded in the late Middle Ages (13th-14th centuries).
The town centre is, in fact, almost rectangular with a grid pattern of streets and fairly compact buildings. Some changes can be seen to date back to the 16th and 17th centuries. The entrance gates on the two larger sides are linked with the roads to Corone in the south and to Saccovesio in the north, over the hill of San Martino.
