Description
The hamlet of Bugiano, a fortified, agricultural village dating back to the 16th century with the houses nestling close to each other like a real village stands out from the entire agricultural area known as “the Countryside".
The buildings have been mostly restored following the damage caused by the earthquake in 1979 and the village has maintained most of its original characteristics.
The Church of San Giovanni Battista at Bugiano Piccolo on top of a hill is a building with very simple, aristocratic, Romanesque details.
It should also be noted that in this mountainous area to the west of the Nera valley, isolated religious buildings appear to have been built before castle or village settlements.
