Description
Collegiacone: the place name is also mentioned in the records as Collis Diaconi or Collis Lucundus. It stands on the steep slopes of Mt. Della Sassa to the west of Cascia, along the road half-way up that led to the monastic settlements scattered over the mountain. Its position overlooking the Corno Valley below and the existence of a tower in the upper part of the village which acted as guardhouse are a repetition of the customary layout of the hill castle.
Following the damage produced by the earthquakes the old town was abandoned. The settlement continues today in a complex of new buildings.
