Numerous archaeological finds show that this village, Avendita, was built along one of the roads to Norcia on the site of a Roman or pre-Roman settlement. The nature and amount of the finds from the vicinity of the church of San Procolo would suggest the presence of a fairly large, Roman building situated near the church, opposite the site where the ancient road forks. The necropolis belonging to the Roman settlement should lie between Colle d’Avendita and Madonna di Loreto. The uninterrupted history of the settlement and its relatively fortunate development, as shown by the construction of the parish church of San Procolo and the presence of lordly homes, are surely linked to the agricultural activities on the vast plateau.
