Description
The Chiavano plateau, which borders with Lazio, is one of the most enchanting access points into Umbria.
Chiavano, the characteristic, medieval castle, which gives the area its name, dominates from the summit of a rounded hill at the head of the valley at an altitude of 1,128 metres. At its feet, the flat valley bottom opens out in a southerly direction bordered by steep slopes up to a kilometre and a half apart. Along the strips connecting the flat land to the high ground are Villa San Silvestro and Buda on one side, Coronella and Trognano on the other. The first sensation that strikes the traveller, once again, is that of a beautiful location which works for both nature and man. Livening up and defining the landscape, environment, nature and history of the Chiavano Plateau even further, are the imposing remains from the 3rd century B.C. of a Roman temple at Villa San Silvestro right beside the village where the long plain begins to stretch out. These remains underline the importance in terms of religion and economics of the ancient location. To enjoy a complete view of the entire plateau, go to the town of Pianezza, in the municipality of Leonessa.
Only excellent products can come from such a beautiful landscape; especially after a walk, or one of the many sports which can be practised in Valnerina, there is nothing better than to savour the flavours of the land and the skill of man in the restaurants and trattorias of the area: the strong-flavoured pecorino cheese, the tasty, cold, pork cuts and the genuine meat, the saffron and the truffle.fake uhren
