Description
The Church of San Eutizio, in the hamlet of Aliena, is one of the finest examples of the so-called minor, holy buildings in the mountains around Norcia, which have been able to preserve their artistic heritage gained in the 17th century.
In particular, the richly decorated altars and paintings, almost always commissioned to Roman painters, continue to form a consistent set showing the changes in the tastes of local purchasers: Madonna of the Rosary by Giacinto Brandi; The Savior and the Saints John the Baptist, Francis and Anthony of Padua, by the circle of artists of Brandi; St. Anthony Abbot and St. Philip Neri, attributed to Guidobaldo Abbatini; the Saints Eutizio and Lawrence, attributed to Vincenzo Manenti.
The high altar displays the Ascension and Saints, dating to the Roman period of the late sixteenth century by the school of Sicolante and Valeriano. There is also a 16th-century tabernacle with painted doors. The baptismal font and stoup date back to the 16th century. There are also some ornate 17th-century liturgical furnishings.
