Description
The Church of Sant’Andrea is found inside the medieval castle of Campi, close to the 14th century door with which it forms a single complex.
The 14th century Church of Sant’Andrea, already annex to the abbey of St. Eutizio, impresses the visitor for the presence of a scenic suspended portico, added in the 16th century. It offers a magnificent view onto the Campiana valley.
Inside the façade, it is possible to distinguish the elegant gothic portal and, up high, barely visible, above the roof of the portico, traces of the frescoes which were part of the oldest decoration of the church. On the left, it is possible to see a large stone block, which is a funeral epigraph from Roman times originating from the mausoleum of gens Entedia, reused in an earlier age. In subsequent centuries, the interior was enriched by considerable art works: 16th century baptismal font; a pulpit carved and inlaid by the Seneca family, wood masters from Piedivalle; dignified high altar also of the 16th century; 18th century tabernacle and, in general, rich liturgical furnishings in prized metals and wood.
