Description
Saint Hippolitus is the parish church (already functioning in the XIV century) of the village of Fogliano.
It has a belfry with tow bells. Inside are rich altars, some of them (dating back to the XV and XVI centuries) are in wood, while the others (from the XVII century) in stucco (originally they were 10, in the first two, fraternities were annexed). At the right side is Our Lady of Sorrows and Saints from the XVII century; a sixteenth century wooden Crucifix is at the center of a painting specially prepared (XVII century), depicting, together with the Virgin and the Magdalene, the Saints John the Evangelist, Francis from Paola, Rita and Sebastian (penultimate right altar). The presbytery is entirely covered by carved and gilded wood (XVII) in a similar way to that of San Procolo of Avendita. On the main altar is Our Lady with Child and Saints by Pietro Herzog (1820). Two paintings from the XVII century and an Annunciation by Carlo Ruspi (1838) are on the left wall. On the counter-facade wall is a Visitation from the XVII century coming from the Church of the Visitation (where is evident the plain classicism of Nicola Poussin).
Baptismal font and stoup from the XVI century (the last one from 1560) in carved stone. In the sacristy are rich liturgical furnishings (in bronze and silver from the XVI-XIX centuries, including a processional cross from the XVIII century). In addition, positive organ-wing from the XVII century.
