Description
The church of San Gregorio, in the hamlet of Atri, enlarged in the seventeenth century, preserves several wooden altars and paintings.
In the central painting is Christ in Cross, with the Saint Gregory and Saint Charles Borromeo. The first altar on the left side is dedicated to Our Lady of Rosary with the fifteen mysteries, at Her foot Saint Catherine and Saint Dominic; on the second altar, at the top Our Lady and the Trinity, in the center Saint Peter and Saint Paul, at the bottom a dying man with the devil and Saint Michel the Archangel between Saint Joseph and Saint Francis. On the right side of the church, the first altar is dedicated to Our Lady with Child and to Saint John the Evangelist and Charles Borromeo; the second altar represents the marriage of Saint Catherine and Saint Mark and Saint Francis. On the left side is a clay statue from the fifteenth century representing Our Lady sitting with Her folded hands and the Child on Her lap.
Of particular interest is a processional cross from the sixteenth century in gilded and silvered foil.
