Description
Montaglioni was the most important castle of the Oblita Valley.
Its origins are in very ancient times, when its name was “Mons Lunae” (the Mountain of the Moon). Here the inhabitants of Roccapazza took refuge, being their ancient castle in danger to be destroyed, after it had been occupied by bandits. Only the gateway and a small piece of walls are remaining of the original defensive system.
The center has, for the rest, the characters of a rural village, with its core in the main square, where is the parish church of Saint Mary. Not far from the village, at the entrance of the Oblita Valley, is the church of Madonna of the Icon, but the oldest church is dedicated to Saint Stephen.
