Abeto, in the municipality of Preci, stands on the side of a hill, at 970 meters a.s.l., in the place, where a castle, with a triangular plant, was built between the tenth and the eleventh century. It is the oldest nucleus of the town. Its name most probably derives from white fir trees existing in these area in ancient times.
Until the half of the thirteenth century, it was ruled by the Abbey of Saint Eutizio. It was seriously damaged by the earthquake of 1328 and completely destroyed by that of 1703. Compared to the other neighboring villages, it is characterized by the presence of several neoclassical building, which make it unique.
