Description
The tower is the last remaining element of the ancient fortress of San Giorgio mentioned as far back as the 12th century.
Near the structure is a well where it is said the “treasure of the hen and her twelve golden chicks” can be found. The watchtower is a robust polygonal based building, much taller than it is wide.
From a military point of view it was intended as a lookout post to guard or defend various areas. If it was isolated amongst the mountains, like that of San Giorgio, or else situated on the staging posts or in the river bends, it could control the roads in the valley and give warning of any danger from afar.
In the past all the towers communicated with each other; when the end of feudalism came, they became the headquarters of the rocks of the community.
