Description
Pontuglia,in the municipality of Scheggino, is an agricultural village that was founded no earlier than the 15th century near water springs that supply the stream of the same name. With the road to Spoleto running alongside, this settlement is partly scattered, partly grouped around an old mill whose large storage tank stands out over the entire place and acts as a point of reference.
One whole side of the square with the centre of Pontuglia clustered around it is, in fact, edged by a large artificial basin made of blocks of stone fed by a small channel that branches off from the nearby stream. The water collected in this way was moved by the large mill wheel that until a few years ago was in working order. The building is, however, well preserved.
A few dove towers stand above the rest of the buildings. If we continue our journey, we come to a quadrangular stone tower with a two-pitched roof and with a rose window in each wall in the top part used as a dovecote. Inside it appears to have been decorated.
