Description
A rustic term coming from Foiianum or Fulianum. Fogliano is a relay village in the southern part of the high ground which completes the agricultural system to the north of Cascia, which was the result of a 16th century transformation of the previous defence “system”.
It stands along the ancient road from Cascia to Ocricchio and to the Piano di S. Scolastica guarded by the nearby castle of Frenfano. This place also shows traces of Roman occupation; tombs were found at the beginning of the last century. The settlement continued to survive and was particular lively between the 16th and 18th centuries, as can be seen from numerous buildings from those eras, including some lordly houses with architectural details of some interest.
