Description
The place name from the Latin “furcilla” suits the “fork” shape formed by the Corno Valley and by the Coste Catena.
Colforcella rose on the site of an ancient fortified enclosure positioned to guard an ancient track. The oldest part of this settlement probably continued into Roman times, as shown by inscriptions (no longer to be seen) and also by its relationship with the necropolis situated around the church of the Madonna di Pacchiano of which no visible trace remains. As the site is still used, it is difficult to interpret the plan of the pre-Roman enclosure.
