Italic in orìgin, Cascia was an important Roman rolex replica centre: numerous arehaeological finds recovered here are kept in the Italian National Library and in the Vatican Museums (small Italic bronzes). Architectural remains in the area itself include the temple of Villa San Silvestro. Since the 12th century, Cascia had been a free commune divided into "gaite" (districts) and "rioni" (quarters) and minted its own money.
In 1596, Cascia was elevated to the status of city by Pope Clement VIII. Cascia has become famous far Saint Rita, an Augustine nun barn in 1381 in Roccaporena, who died in 1447. She was beatifìed by Pope Urbano VIII in 1628 and sanctified in 1900 by Pope Leo XIII. Of its Medieval and Renaissance past, Cascia has conserved parts of the walls, fortifìcations, doors and palazzos situated around the main squares.
